Christmas: a look back.
Christmas has always represented a time of appreciation for Moacir and I. A time when we appreciate each other, family and friends, we appreciate our lives and we appreciate everything the passing year has been. For us, 2016 is our best year yet, the most challenging too, but in majority, the most special one. After all, we travelled, we got engaged and we blossomed our Cielo Collective from a little seed into a growing plant.
We came into this with a dream, great hopes and a strong determination; we wanted to create something special. The results have been beyond our wildest dreams. In just one month after launching Cielo we were able to call our artisan partners to order more pieces. This felt like such an achievement for us, after months of uncertainty whilst setting up the store. It was then we realised that this was all possible! Most of the artisans we work with live in rural areas and rely on wholesale orders. The unrest in Oaxaca and Chiapas this past year also affected their tourism terribly, so hearing that Cielo could continue to work with them meant so much.
We received our box of designs from the Weaving Women of Santo Tomas Jalieza last week, which was their first ever international shipment! The pieces arrived just in time for our open studio event and by the end of the day most of their clutches had sold out. We called Evelia (the manager of the cooperative) on Monday to let her know and she was just as excited as we were. She immediately started talking about new colour designs and combinations. The women are all so enthusiastic and have such an entrepreneurial spirit!
Day to day experiences and interactions with both our Artisan partners and you, our dear customers, are what make this entire venture worthwhile. We have been blown away by your feedback, your constructive criticism, and most importantly, by your love of our pieces, your support and your belief in our cause.
So once again, thank you for making this Christmas such a memorable time for not only Moacir and I but also our artisan partners. You have given all of us the opportunity to continue doing what we love and to grow. With every sale, you have also donated to Mision Mexico Children’s Refuge. Each financial year we will give 5% of the profits to this incredible organisation, as it is so important for us to give back.
On behalf of Moacir and myself, have a beautiful Christmas and enjoy the moment with your family and friends. We also hope that everyone loves their Cielo gifts!!
