Igniting Our Inspiration
Moacir and I have been taking advantage of the quiet post Christmas period to look into designs and colour concepts for this year. Throughout this time we looked back at all the photos we took on our travels to ignite our inspiration.
In Mexico's stunning Oaxaca City, every street corner comes alive with beauty, colour and tradition as cultural celebrations fill the streets. In San Cristobal de las Casas, the local artisan market is like an explosion of colour, with contrasting coloured textiles covering every stall. Tapachula's dusty roads are filled with surprisingly eye catching colour palettes and Lake Atitlan's natural dyes create every textile colour imaginable.
During this design process we looked through all of these photos and wrote down our favourite colour combinations. We then sent through our colour ideas to the Weaving Women of Santo Tomas and Jolom Mayaetik for our clutch and bag designs. The beauty with this, while we give the weaving cooperatives colour concepts that we love, every artisan interprets the concept in their own way and often creates something that we aren't expecting. Therefore each piece is truly unique. It is this process that I love, because when we receive the pieces here in Australia, it is always a surprise.
